Purpose of the Job:

The Research Scientist - Chemical Research is responsible for the development and innovation of pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates. The role involves advanced synthesis techniques, process development, impurity characterization, and ensuring scale-up feasibility for commercialization. The key objective is to support the organization's research goals while ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to best practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of Chemical Molecules: Conduct research and development activities focused on pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates, with expertise in multi-step synthesis, Diketene chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and vapor-phase reactions.

  • Process Development: Develop and optimize chemical processes at the gram scale. Support scale-up efforts to ensure commercial feasibility and smooth transition from lab scale to production. Contribute to technology package preparation, process optimization, and plant support.

  • Impurity Isolation & Characterization: Synthesize impurities and isolate them for further analysis. Perform impurity characterization and data interpretation using advanced techniques such as NMR, Mass Spectrometry, etc.

  • Research & Literature Search: Conduct comprehensive literature searches, route scouting, and process innovation. Investigate new chemical routes and technologies to improve product development.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), maintain safety standards in handling hazardous chemicals, and adhere to environmental and safety guidelines. Conduct effluent minimization and recyclability studies.

  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with cross-functional teams for process optimization, scale-up activities, and commercialization. Support teamwork across various departments, contributing to a cohesive R&D environment.

  • Project Support: Assist in MOC (Management of Change) studies, effluent studies, and economization to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.


Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Education:

    • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Chemistry (or related field) from a recognized institution.
  • Experience:

    • 4-9 years of hands-on industry experience in chemical research, process development, and synthesis, particularly in pharma, agrochemical, or specialty chemicals.
    • Solid experience in Diketene chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and vapor-phase reactions.
    • Exposure to scale-up processes, GLP, and technology package preparation.

Skills Required:

Functional Skills:

  • Expertise in organic synthesis, multi-step synthesis, and reaction chemistry (including chlorination, fluorination, bromination, and Grignard reactions).
  • Strong knowledge of process development, impurity characterization, and scale-up activities.
  • Proficient in using analytical tools such as NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and other characterization techniques.
  • Ability to handle hazardous chemicals safely and to implement safe laboratory practices.
  • Familiarity with process safety, MOC, and environmental studies (effluent management, recyclability).
  • Strong understanding of GLP and laboratory documentation standards.

Behavioral Skills:
