2. Role Overview (Capsule)

The Regional Medical Advisor (RMA) is a field-based scientific expert in the therapeutic area (CVRM), responsible for executing Medical Affairs Plans for pre-launch and newly launched products.

The role focuses on:

  • Driving scientific engagement

  • Influencing clinical practice

  • Building strong partnerships with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and ecosystem stakeholders

  • Supporting safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines

  • Contributing to medical strategy and evidence generation


3. Key Accountabilities

A. Scientific Expertise

  • Maintain strong scientific knowledge in CVRM disease areas, AZ products, and emerging therapies.

  • Provide leadership in developing the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP).

  • Serve as a scientific subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support internal capability building through training and mentoring.


B. Scientific Exchange

  • Engage in peer-to-peer scientific discussions with HCPs and scientific experts.

  • Deliver scientific/clinical presentations using appropriate channel mix (face-to-face, digital, hybrid).

  • Respond to unsolicited medical inquiries with accurate and balanced medical information.

  • Identify and develop relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) for ongoing scientific dialogue.

  • Organize and facilitate scientific events:

    • MSL meetings

    • Symposiums

    • Scientific Exchanges

    • Advisory Boards

    • Expert Panels

    • “Meet the Professor” sessions

  • Support and collaborate with KEEs on study proposals (ESRs, local clinical studies).


C. Customer Insights

  • Identify and analyze insights from scientific and clinical environments.

  • Share actionable insights with internal teams to shape medical and product strategy.

  • Partner with traditional and non-traditional stakeholders to identify gaps along the patient journey.


D. Strategic Relationship Management

  • Build strong peer-level relationships with medical experts, HCPs, and ecosystem partners.

  • Identify investigators for pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing studies.

  • Support data generation activities, including reviews of investigator-initiated studies.

  • Expand KEE network to include payers, researchers, policy makers, and innovation groups.

  • Develop sustainable partnerships to address systemic patient access gaps.


E. Additional Responsibilities

  • Use digital technologies as enablers for medical engagement and patient-centric solutions.

  • Demonstrate sound understanding of:

    • Pharmacovigilance principles

    • GxP compliance

    • Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

    • Clinical study types

    • AE reporting requirements

  • Adhere to:

    • Ethical Interactions Policy

    • Local regulatory requirements

    • AstraZeneca Global Field Medical Standards

    • SOPs related to clinical trials, promotion, and safety reporting


4. Education, Qualifications & Skills

Essential

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline

  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to engage using diverse communication channels

  • Strong project management and presentation skills

  • High analytical and conceptual thinking ability

Desirable

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD)

  • Experience in:

    • Pharmaceutical industry

    • Regulatory environment

    • Clinical/preclinical research

    • Therapeutic area (CVRM)

  • Experience with drug discovery, development, and KEE interactions
