Job Overview

The QA / Process Specialist – Medical Coding will be responsible for overseeing daily production and quality assurance activities for a team of medical coders. This role focuses on maintaining high coding accuracy, meeting client productivity targets, mentoring coding professionals, and supporting continuous process improvement initiatives, particularly in HCC risk adjustment coding environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage coding team performance using defined productivity and quality metrics, including daily volume, assignment completion, turnaround times, and accuracy targets

  • Ensure and maintain a minimum 95% coding quality accuracy across assigned projects

  • Review production and quality reports, system dashboards, and audit findings; provide actionable feedback to coders and leadership

  • Escalate production, quality, or operational risks to the Manager and collaborate with Training teams to resolve performance gaps

  • Lead coaching, mentoring, and skill-development initiatives to improve coding quality, compliance, and professionalism

  • Conduct regular team meetings and support annual performance evaluations

  • Track and manage attendance, time sheets, and workload distribution for coding staff

  • Perform full coding audits and support special quality improvement projects as assigned

  • Promote high professional, ethical, and compliance standards across all coding activities

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce revenue leakage while ensuring regulatory compliance

  • Stay current with coding guidelines, regulatory updates, and industry best practices through ongoing education and training


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Zoology, Microbiology, or related discipline

  • Experience Required: Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in medical coding and quality assurance

  • Certifications (Mandatory):

    • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or

    • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong domain expertise in medical coding quality processes and production management

  • In-depth knowledge of HCC risk adjustment coding, ICD coding guidelines, and documentation standards

  • Extensive understanding of hospital, technical, and professional services reimbursement systems

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific coding, billing, and compliance regulations

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends using performance data

  • Proven experience in training, coaching, and mentoring coding professionals

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal abilities

  • High attention to detail and commitment to ethical and professional standards
