Job Overview

athenahealth is hiring a Senior Associate – Revenue Cycle Case & Escalation Management (Medical Coding) to join its specialized RCCEM team in Chennai. This role serves as the final escalation point for complex and high-impact revenue cycle and client cases, requiring strong expertise in US medical coding and healthcare revenue cycle processes.

The position plays a critical role in driving actionable insights across Product and Revenue Cycle Management, improving case resolution performance, and strengthening client satisfaction through data-driven decision-making and cross-functional collaboration.


Key Responsibilities

Customer & Case Management

  • Manage and resolve complex, high-priority revenue cycle escalations using CRM platforms such as Salesforce

  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with internal teams and external clients

  • Provide structured feedback to enhance service delivery, product performance, and client outcomes

Analytical & Process Improvement

  • Investigate escalated cases using available tools and data to identify root causes and trends

  • Recommend workflow, quality, and process improvements to reduce case inflow and enhance customer sentiment

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across RCCEM processes and tools

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop clear action plans with defined tasks, priorities, and timelines

  • Coordinate effectively across teams to ensure timely and accurate resolution of escalations

  • Identify risks or dependencies that may impact case outcomes

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing

  • Lead team discussions and promote best practices in escalation management

  • Mentor peers through guidance, feedback, and shadowing on complex cases and client interactions


Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Demonstrated experience in US healthcare revenue cycle management, medical billing, or medical coding

  • Certification such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent required

  • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply US healthcare, billing, and reimbursement concepts

  • Experience handling complex cases, escalations, or client-facing issue resolution in a healthcare environment


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of medical coding systems including ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS

  • Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology

  • Customer-centric approach with strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and deliver actionable insights

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across multiple stakeholder levels

  • Strong project management and prioritization abilities

  • Proficiency in Excel and business productivity tools such as Smartsheets, Google Workspace, and SharePoint

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams
