Job Title: Medical Coding Trainer (ED Ancillary Coding)

Department: Medical Coding

Reporting To: Team Lead / Operations Manager


Role Description Overview:

The Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for training new joiners on medical coding concepts, guidelines, and client-specific requirements. This role involves monitoring and assessing trainees' productivity and quality, providing feedback, and ensuring adherence to both internal and client-specific standards. The trainer is also responsible for educating trainees on the latest updates in medical coding practices and offering continuous support throughout their training period.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Training and Development:

    • Train new joiners effectively on the principles and concepts of medical coding with a focus on ED Ancillary Coding.

    • Develop and deliver training content aligned with client specifications and industry standards.

    • Ensure the trainees are educated on the latest updates, coding guidelines, and client-specific requirements.

  2. Monitoring and Feedback:

    • Track and monitor the productivity and quality output of trainees based on the OJT (on-the-job training) glide path and ramp-up targets.

    • Provide continuous feedback to trainees in a structured manner to ensure consistent improvement.

    • Conduct one-on-one sessions with trainees to address repeated errors and areas for improvement.

  3. Support and Collaboration:

    • Offer valuable feedback on trainees’ progress to Team Leads.

    • Collaborate with Team Leads to help confirm trainees for early confirmation.

    • Pass on quality control (QC) feedback effectively to the trainees for further refinement.

  4. Adherence to Quality Standards:

    • Ensure that the training process and trainees’ performance align with the organization’s quality standards and client requirements.

    • Work closely with quality assurance teams to ensure all trainees meet the required accuracy and productivity targets.


Desired Profile:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Medical Coding, with a focus on ED Ancillary Coding.

  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Extensive coaching and training experience, with the ability to mentor new joiners effectively.

    • Strong understanding of medical coding guidelines and best practices.

    • Ability to provide constructive feedback and improve trainee performance.

    • Knowledge of client-specific coding requirements and updates in the coding field.

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Certifications:

    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or certification from AHIMA required.

  • Education:

    • Any graduate; medical or healthcare-related qualifications are preferred.
