About the Role:
The Principal Scientist I/II - Data Science (Advanced Analytics) will collaborate directly with business stakeholders to design and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning, deep learning, optimization, and computer vision algorithms. The role involves solving complex challenges in various domains such as manufacturing inspections, medical imaging, robotics, and finance. A proactive approach in developing and deploying algorithms is crucial for impactful results in diverse environments, including labs, manufacturing floors, and edge computing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply traditional and advanced computer vision algorithms to address complex problems.
  • Handle imbalanced, noisy, and high-dimensional datasets to ensure robust and scalable outcomes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams in sectors like manufacturing, medical imaging, robotics vision, and finance.
  • Integrate imaging systems, including cameras and sensors, across diverse settings such as labs and robotics systems.
  • Build and optimize models for real-time inference, batch processing, and edge computing scenarios.
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of model development, deployment, and performance monitoring.
  • Use machine learning and deep learning techniques to enhance manufacturing processes, reducing downtime and improving line capacity.
  • Employ CI/CD workflows, version control systems (e.g., Git), and Docker for efficient research processes.
  • Leverage expertise in image annotation tools, image registration, and domain-specific challenges.
  • Mentor team members and foster collaboration within cross-functional teams to drive innovation.

Technical Knowledge Required:

  • Core Software Development and Programming:

    • Advanced proficiency in Python, with C++ knowledge as a plus.
    • Familiarity with scalable software development practices and hardware system integration.
  • Core Computer Vision Expertise:

    • Proficiency in both traditional computer vision algorithms (e.g., edge detection, feature extraction) and modern deep learning approaches (e.g., CNNs, object detection, segmentation).
    • Experience with OpenCV, PIL, scikit-image, and 3D point cloud processing.
  • Deep Learning and Machine Learning:

    • Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras.
    • Expertise in vision-based architectures like LeNet, ResNet, YOLO, UNet, EfficientNet, and SAM.
    • Knowledge of real-time inference techniques, including model quantization and pruning.
  • Data Acquisition and Image Handling:

    • Experience with different imaging modalities (e.g., RGB, thermal, histology, microscopic).
    • Familiarity with specialized medical imaging libraries such as MONAI, ITK/Simple ITK is preferred.
  • Toolsets and Domain-Specific Knowledge:

    • Expertise in image annotation tools, image registration, and edge deployment systems (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson).
