Overview

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Principal Scientific Account Lead (SAL) to support scientific engagement, value communication, and evidence generation across the United States. This senior-level role is positioned within the Medical Affairs Group – Value & Evidence Scientific Engagement (V&ESE) and is central to advancing scientific exchange with population health decision makers.

This position plays a strategic role in enabling patient access to innovative therapies by providing objective scientific, clinical, and health economics information to key healthcare stakeholders.

Role Summary

The Principal Scientific Account Lead will deliver scientific, clinical, economic, and health outcomes information across the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine portfolio. This field-based specialist will support external stakeholders including:

  • Managed Care Organizations

  • Integrated Delivery Networks

  • Pharmacy Benefit Managers

  • Government Agencies (CMS, VA/DoD)

  • Accountable Care Organizations

  • Long-Term Care Networks

  • Group Purchasing Organizations

  • Large Physician Groups

The SAL will integrate scientific data with evolving healthcare trends to support effective decision-making and value demonstration across therapeutic areas.


Key Responsibilities

External Scientific Engagement

  • Develop and execute a compliant, strategic scientific account plan for the assigned region.

  • Build and maintain relationships with PHDMs, clinical leaders, C-suite executives, and healthcare organizations.

  • Deliver unbiased scientific, clinical, health economic, and outcomes research information across the full J&J IM portfolio.

  • Communicate product value through BIMs, cost/resource models, HEOR insights, and clinical evidence.

  • Assess payer trends, therapeutic pathways, and evolving policy impacts to support product positioning.

  • Provide scientific voice-of-customer insights to internal teams.

  • Represent J&J at key scientific and health outcomes conferences such as AMCP and ASHP.

Internal Leadership and Collaboration

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of therapeutic areas, pipeline products, compliance guidelines, and market dynamics.

  • Collaborate with Strategic Customer Group (SCG), Medical Affairs, and internal V&ESE leadership.

  • Contribute to cross-functional business planning with scientific, pharmacoeconomic, and market insights.

  • Support outcomes research initiatives, publications, and tool deployments.

  • Mentor peers and uphold best practices in compliant scientific exchange.

Education & Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Doctorate-level degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DNP, or equivalent in a scientific/clinical discipline).

  • Minimum 8 years of post-graduate experience, including at least 4 years in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

  • Prior experience in clinical, HEOR, or field-based scientific roles.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

  • Ability to travel 50–70 percent, including domestic and international travel.

Preferred:

  • Advanced training or experience in:

    • Health Economics

    • Pharmacoeconomics

    • Health Policy

    • Quality of Life Research

    • Pharmacoepidemiology

  • Experience in payer engagement, value communication, or health system strategy.


Work Environment

This is a field-based role requiring swift adaptability across regions and time zones, with significant travel for scientific meetings, customer interactions, and internal events.
