Job Summary:

The Pharmacist at The Jewish Hospital performs medication management to ensure safe, rational, and cost-effective therapy while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and accrediting agency regulations. The role includes reviewing medication orders for safety and efficacy, overseeing pharmacy functions, providing clinical support, and educating patients. The Pharmacist collaborates with the healthcare team to optimize patient care and ensures that the pharmacy operates efficiently.


Essential Functions:

  • Process medication orders, providing reviews for appropriateness, safety, and efficacy.
  • Ensure accurate preparation of compounded and non-compounded products, adhering to safety regulations.
  • Oversee the distributive functions within the pharmacy to ensure timely medication availability.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and support personnel as needed.
  • Maintain accountability for the security of pharmacy inventory.
  • Identify, document, and resolve medication events; analyze trends and provide preventative recommendations.
  • Provide medication education to improve patient understanding and adherence.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy team members, healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers.
  • Participate in medication safety, quality assurance, drug utilization reviews, and other departmental activities.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS or PharmD.

  • Preferred Education: Advanced pharmacy degree (Doctor of Pharmacy, Masters, Residency).

  • Required Licensing/Certifications:

    • Current pharmacist license in the state of practice.
    • Valid state-issued ID.
    • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred).
    • Immunization Certification (preferred).

Experience:

  • Required Experience: 2 years of recent experience in an acute care setting.
  • Preferred Experience: 1 year of leadership experience and 1 year in the field of pharmacy practice.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Monitoring patient conditions and administering medications.
  • Evaluating employee performance and analyzing data.
  • Effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Experience with pharmacy operating systems, automation, and EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under stress.
  • Proficient with MS Office, spreadsheets, and drug databases.
  • Ability to educate patients and staff and handle hazardous drugs.

Training and Technology:

  • Preferred Training: EPIC Electronic Health Record.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware/software and pharmacy systems.
