Employment Type: Part-Time (20 hours/week)
Compensation: $52.66 - $67.30 per hour


Job Overview

Cincinnati Children's Hospital is seeking a part-time pharmacist to join its Critical Care and Operating Room team. This role involves providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including all aspects of the medication-use process such as procurement, prescribing, compounding, dispensing, administration, and monitoring. The pharmacist will collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy for the benefit of patients and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time (20 hours per week)
  • Rotating shifts, including weekends

Responsibilities

Medication Orders

  • Evaluate medication orders considering patient weight, allergy history, and compatibilities.
  • Record orders accurately in patient profiles.
  • Resolve problematic orders and clarify them with physicians or nurses as needed.
  • Detect and address potential medication order issues, propose alternatives, and implement changes to improve patient care.

Intravenous Preparations

  • Prepare IV medications, including TPN, central lines, antibiotics, and chemotherapy, adhering to departmental guidelines.
  • Train pharmacists and technicians in unit dose and IV preparation.

Chemotherapy Orders

  • Process chemotherapy orders with dual checks for dosages and calculations by two pharmacists.
  • Follow safety protocols, including protective equipment and use of appropriate hoods, while preparing chemotherapy.

Serve as a Resource

  • Utilize appropriate references to address medication-related questions regarding drug interactions, compatibilities, and dosing.
  • Provide recommendations for timing serum concentration draws.
  • Act as a professional and informative resource for clinicians, patients, and staff.
  • Handle conflict situations effectively and take administrative action when necessary.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required.
  • Must hold an Ohio Pharmacist License or obtain one within three months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in critical care, OR settings, or hospital pharmacy is advantageous.
