This role supports Illingworth Research Group, a Syneos Health company specializing in patient-centric clinical services, including mobile research nursing, patient concierge services, medical photography, and decentralized clinical trial support across all study phases and therapeutic areas.


Role Overview

The PCS Funding Liaison is responsible for the administration and oversight of complex, global patient payments within clinical trials. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and timely processing of patient stipends, reimbursements, and travel-related expenses while serving as a key liaison between funding teams, patient concierge services, project management, and external financial partners. The position plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and a positive patient experience.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Payments & Financial Administration

  • Administer and manage complex, multi-country patient payments in accordance with study protocols, sponsor requirements, and internal policies.

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of patient stipends, expense reimbursements, and travel-related payments using approved financial platforms.

  • Reconcile travel invoices charged to project-specific credit cards, ensuring accuracy and appropriate cost allocation.

  • Perform detailed reconciliations between payment platforms and internal financial systems to ensure financial accuracy and audit readiness.

Financial Reporting & Budget Support

  • Track and report time spent on reimbursement-related activities to support project budget oversight and forecasting.

  • Provide financial data to support monthly reporting, variance analysis, and finance reviews.

  • Support the setup of new study-specific payment methods, including requesting and managing study credit cards.

Operational Coordination & Compliance

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Funding team, Patient Concierge services, PCS Project Managers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Ensure payment processes align with project timelines, patient experience objectives, and operational plans.

  • Maintain compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and applicable regulatory and financial requirements.

Stakeholder & Client Engagement

  • Represent the PCS Funding function in client meetings, site initiation visits, and investigator meetings, providing expertise on patient reimbursement strategies.

  • Collaborate with external vendors, including payment card providers and third-party financial service partners, to resolve issues and optimize reimbursement workflows.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to support process improvements, training initiatives, and continuous optimization of patient payment operations.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, or

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in financial operations, patient reimbursement, clinical trial support, or a related role within healthcare, CRO, or life sciences environments.

  • Demonstrated experience managing global or multi-country payment processes, preferably within clinical research or patient support services.

  • Experience reconciling financial transactions, credit card statements, or payment platforms in a regulated environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of clinical trial operations and patient-centric services.

  • Knowledge of GCP, SOPs, and regulatory requirements related to patient payments and reimbursements.

  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and reconciliation skills.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and across global teams.

  • Proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets, and payment management platforms.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a global environment.

  • English proficiency required; additional languages are an asset.
