Job Overview
The Clinical Data Science Lead (External Data) is responsible for driving data science strategy and execution across clinical development programs, with a focus on external data sources such as real-world data (RWD), electronic health records (EHR), registries, and other non-traditional datasets.
This role oversees advanced analytics initiatives, ensures robust statistical methodologies, and translates complex clinical data into actionable insights that inform strategic decision-making. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders across global teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of data science strategies to enhance clinical trial data analysis and integration of external data sources
Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, Data Management, Regulatory, and Medical teams to define analytical objectives and data requirements
Oversee development and validation of statistical models, predictive analytics tools, and visualization frameworks
Ensure high-quality data governance, compliance, and alignment with regulatory standards
Drive innovation in advanced analytics, including real-world evidence generation and data-driven decision support
Mentor and guide data scientists and analysts in best practices for statistical programming, data modeling, and visualization
Present analytical findings and strategic insights to senior leadership and stakeholders to influence clinical and operational decisions
Support regulatory submission strategies by ensuring data integrity and analytical transparency
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Statistics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Life Sciences, or related quantitative discipline
8–12 years of progressive experience in clinical data science, biostatistics, or advanced analytics within a clinical research environment
Proven leadership experience managing data science teams and complex analytical projects
Strong expertise in statistical software and programming tools such as R, SAS, Python, or similar platforms
Experience working with external data sources including real-world data and large healthcare datasets
In-depth understanding of clinical trial processes, regulatory requirements, and ICH-GCP guidelines
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
