Patient Therapy Access Specialist – Abbott (Plano, TX)

Job Summary:

Abbott, a global leader in healthcare innovation, is seeking a Patient Therapy Access Specialist for its Plano, TX location. This full-time, on-site role is ideal for professionals with experience in healthcare insurance authorization, patient access, and medical device support. As a key liaison between patients, providers, and insurers, you will manage the pre-certification and authorization process to ensure patients receive timely access to Abbott's life-enhancing medical technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple patient cases with strict time deadlines

  • Verify insurance benefits and process authorization requests efficiently

  • Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness

  • Submit and track authorizations with insurance carriers

  • Coordinate with provider offices to obtain necessary clinical data

  • Assist in appeals processes when authorization is denied

  • Ensure compliance with Abbott’s data privacy and handling protocols

  • Navigate insurance portals (e.g., Aetna, Cigna, UHC) to expedite approvals

  • Present access-related updates and conduct small group training


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Nursing, Home Health, or related field

  • Experience with CPT codes, ICD-10CM, and medical terminology

  • Knowledge of Medicare, private insurance, and Worker’s Comp guidelines

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience using insurance payor portals

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines

  • Team-oriented with strong organizational skills

  • Public speaking or presentation experience a plus

  • Up to 5% travel required


Salary Range:

$20.05 – $40.15 per hour (Location-dependent)
