The Patient Services team plays a critical role in ensuring efficient patient registration, financial coordination, and service excellence.


Position Summary

The Patient Services Representative (PSR) will be the first point of contact for patients and families, managing check-ins, updating patient records, collecting payments, scheduling appointments, and providing guidance on financial responsibilities. This role emphasizes patient-centered service, operational efficiency, and adherence to hospital policies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and register patients, guide them through self-arrival technology or check-in processes.

  • Collect copayments and educate patients on financial obligations.

  • Confirm and update patient demographic, insurance, and contact information.

  • Schedule follow-up appointments and connect patients with ancillary services.

  • Assist with financial education, insurance verification, consent forms, and Biometrics registration.

  • Promote UPMC digital tools, including MyUPMC, to improve patient experience.

  • Address unresolved patient issues, escalating as appropriate for service recovery.

  • Manage phone inquiries, administrative tasks, and other duties as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records in Epic, Medipac, or other electronic health systems.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in high-volume medical registration, billing, or customer service.

  • Prior experience with patient registration, electronic health records, or medical billing systems preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous.

  • Proficiency with computer applications, office equipment, and typing skills required.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.


Licensure & Certifications

  • Act 31 / Act 33 / Act 34 / Act 73 clearances required.
