Position Overview

El Paso County Public Health is seeking a part-time Medical Billing Specialist to join our Clinical Services Division. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, independence, and expertise in medical billing and revenue cycle management. This role requires experience with medical ICD-10 and CPT codes, and the ability to handle a variety of billing tasks with strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Billing & Payment Processing: Generate patient statements, apply payments to accounts, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Insurance Claims: Submit claims electronically or via CMS-1500 form, follow up with insurance carriers on unpaid or rejected claims, and prepare appeal letters for claim denials.
  • Revenue Cycle Management: Oversee the end-to-end process including insurance verification, claims submission, and reporting.
  • Patient Interaction: Assist patients with billing inquiries, explain patient responsibilities, and resolve complaints.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of claims and payments, create aging reports, and track managed care authorizations.
  • Collections: Work with patients to establish payment plans and follow up on unpaid accounts, including submission to collection agencies if necessary.
  • Compliance: Ensure all work follows HIPAA guidelines for patient confidentiality and security.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (flexible) 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $23.00 (commensurate with qualifications)
  • This position is in-person and does not offer remote work. It is part-time, with up to 25 hours per week.

Qualifications

Required

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in medical billing, or 1 year of experience with an Associate’s degree or 2 years with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT codes, claims processing, and resolution. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

Preferred

  • Education: Medical Billing certificate (2 years of education in a medical billing program).
  • Experience: Previous experience with payment logging and applying.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Must pass a conditional post-offer background investigation and drug screen.
  • Proof of required vaccinations/testing as per public health requirements.

Work Conditions

  • Office-based environment, located at El Paso County Citizen's Service Center, 1675 West Garden of the Gods Road, Suite 2044, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.

Additional Information

This is a part-time position working up to 25 hours per week. The closing date for applications is 11/12/2024, but the position may close earlier if a sufficient number of qualified applications are received.
