Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Chief Physician/Investigator and Paramedic Manager, the Paramedic ensures the safety, health, and well-being of study subjects in clinical trials. Responsible for monitoring, documenting, and providing medical care for Adverse Events (AEs), performing technical procedures, and supporting study execution.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary subject safety contact for all study subjects in the clinic.

  • Monitor, record, and review Adverse Events (AEs) prior to dosing and procedures.

  • Provide basic and advanced medical care, both emergent and non-emergent, including life-threatening situations using approved medical protocols.

  • Assist with Phase I technical procedures such as blood collection, vital signs monitoring, and ECGs.

  • Assess out-of-range values and intervene medically as needed.

  • Document AEs and communicate with study staff, management, and investigators.

  • Support process improvement and maintain compliance with clinical study protocols.


Job Complexity:

  • Semi-routine assignments with occasional deviation from accepted practices.

Supervision:

  • Works under established procedures; guidance required for new assignments.

Business Relationships:

  • Internal: Department colleagues and management

  • External: Occasional contact outside the organization for obtaining or providing information


Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Texas Certified Paramedic

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

Experience:

  • Preferred 3+ years as a paramedic in 911 system or clinical setting

  • Combination of education, training, and experience considered

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in airway management, phlebotomy, IV establishment, and injections

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and emergency situations

  • Professional conduct with staff, management, and physicians


Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, twisting, squatting, and bending for 4–6 hours/day

  • Repetitive hand and wrist movements

  • Lifting/moving 15–30 lbs. (maximum 35 lbs.)

  • Ability to use computers and software effectively

  • Frequent mobility and occasional crouching/stooping
