We are currently seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our Clinical Computational Diagnostics Services within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This team develops and validates diagnostic tests that drive key advancements in personalized cancer care, with a focus on MSK-IMPACT and MSK-ACCESS. These groundbreaking tests help us analyze tumor DNA and use liquid biopsy techniques for monitoring cancer progression.

Role Overview

The Operations Manager will report directly to the Associate Director, overseeing operational, human resources, and information resource functions within the Clinical Computational Diagnostics Services. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the smooth operation of clinical diagnostics services, managing both internal and external stakeholders, and providing strategic leadership to the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Service Chief/Clinical Director on strategic, financial, and operational planning.
  • Managing operational tasks, including staffing, budget management, and coordination with external stakeholders (e.g., pharma companies, MSK investigators).
  • Partnering with Clinical Bioinformatics and Software Engineering teams to develop clinical computational systems.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of managers and technical supervisors, ensuring high standards of service for our patients.
  • Facilitating the planning and validation of new clinical assays and data analysis methods with an emphasis on quality assurance.
  • Working closely with the Office of Technology Development and MSK DigITs (Digital Informatics & Technology Solutions) teams to support data partnerships.
  • Managing internal and external relationships related to clinical trials, including logistics, budgeting, and regulatory documentation.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; 4-7 years of experience supporting a clinical practice (preferably in an academic medical center environment), or relevant transferrable experience.
  • Experience: Prior leadership experience in building and managing teams in laboratory and bioinformatics settings. Laboratory technologist or clinical bioinformatics experience, particularly in molecular diagnostics, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
