Position Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for implementing an effective occupational health program at the facility level. The role supports employee health, safety, and wellbeing by managing health risks, providing immediate care, ensuring regulatory compliance, and acting as a strategic partner to help maximize productivity and reduce health-related costs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain occupational health programs to address employee health risks.

  • Provide immediate care in cases of illness and workplace injury.

  • Lead and coordinate an on-site medical emergency response team.

  • Participate in root cause analysis for workplace incidents.

  • Conduct health surveillance and job placement activities (hearing conservation, respiratory surveillance, chemical exposure management, etc.).

  • Manage occupational health records and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements (OSHA, Workers’ Compensation, etc.).

  • Facilitate case management for injured employees, coordinating with HR, managers, insurers, and healthcare providers.

  • Develop and implement health promotion and wellness programs for employees and families.

  • Provide health counseling within scope of nursing practice.

  • Collaborate with health & safety professionals to identify and mitigate workplace risks.

  • Support ergonomics assessments and musculoskeletal health interventions.

  • Administer drug-testing programs, including follow-ups.

  • Establish relationships with external physicians as program partners.

  • Maintain required certifications and continuing education.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.


Qualifications

  • Required:

    • Registered Nurse (active license)

    • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience

    • CPR/First Aid certification

    • Ability to respond physically during emergencies

  • Preferred:

    • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

    • Occupational Health Certification

    • Experience in occupational health or related field

    • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, communication, and computer skills


Compensation

  • Estimated Base Salary Range: $68,000 – $93,000 annually

  • Pay may vary based on skills, experience, market data, and location.

  • Position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
