MRI Technologist - PRN (Per Diem)
Location: University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus, Baltimore, MD

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated MRI Technologist to join our team on a PRN (Per Diem) basis. This role involves performing a variety of MRI procedures, ensuring the highest quality of patient care, and assisting in reduced length of stay initiatives. The MRI Technologist will be responsible for verifying patient information, ensuring patient safety, administering IV contrast, and maintaining proper documentation for billing purposes. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of MRI procedures, ensuring quality care and continuity of patient care.
  • Verify patient identity and review requisitions for accuracy, including clinical diagnoses and demographic information.
  • Assess patient condition, ensuring safety through proper radiation safety practices and positioning.
  • Insert and maintain Heparin locks or IV access devices as required and administer IV contrast media.
  • Review MRI exams for technical accuracy and abnormal pathology, presenting completed exams to radiologists via Teleradiology.
  • Communicate critical data to the care team immediately after the procedure.
  • Process all patients through the Meditech system before the end of each shift to ensure proper documentation and billing.
  • Participate in expense control initiatives and assist in MRI room cleanliness and stocking.
  • Educate students assigned to the MRI department and assist in their training.
  • Report safety hazards or equipment malfunctions promptly to supervisors.
  • Participate in the MRI Section On-Call schedule as needed.
  • Maintain a positive and professional rapport with patients, hospital staff, families, and physicians.
  • Demonstrate technical competence and ability to use equipment safely for age-specific populations.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology School.
  • Licensing/Certification:
    • Registered by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).
    • Licensed by the State of Maryland.
  • Experience:
    • Up to one (1) year of radiographic experience and one (1) month of MRI experience following graduation.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to move patients, lift equipment, and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Working Conditions: Well-lit, ventilated environment.
  • Hazards: Possible exposure to ionizing radiation.
