We are currently seeking a Senior Microbiology Technician to join our team on a permanent basis and contribute to our mission of increasing access to essential medicines.


A Day In The Life Of A Senior Microbiology Technician

As a Senior Microbiology Technician, you will be responsible for guiding and directing a team of technicians in all aspects of microbiology testing and laboratory tasks. You will work in a regulated pharmaceutical environment and have a key role in ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Your primary responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documentation:

    • Review and approve batch documentation for product and starting materials, ensuring compliance with CGMP standards.

    • Regularly review data and data management systems to maintain performance and compliance.

  • Testing Support:

    • Provide microbiology testing support for raw materials, bulk products, and finished products when required.

    • Assist with the coordination of testing activities and ensure the proper execution of tests.

  • Investigation & Continuous Improvement:

    • Lead complex investigations using root cause analysis and trend results to identify corrective or preventive actions.

    • Drive continuous improvement within the laboratory to enhance performance.

  • LIMS & Data Review:

    • Trend and review LIMS results or product review reports according to company procedures.

  • Training:

    • Train laboratory and site personnel in microbiology techniques and regulatory knowledge.

  • Quality Control Oversight:

    • Review and approve microbiology data and other relevant documentation.

    • Support the Microbiology Department and deputize for the Team Leader when required.

    • Act in a QC Quality Assurance capacity for raw material/component release.


Who We're Looking For

Do you have the following qualifications and experience?

  • Qualifications:

    • A degree in a relevant scientific discipline.

  • Experience:

    • Significant experience working within a pharmaceutical microbiology environment.

    • Technical expertise in a regulated microbiology laboratory and a thorough understanding of GMP, EP requirements, and regulatory expectations.

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques.

    • Experience with technical report writing (desirable).

    • Computer literate, with experience in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Quality systems such as Deviation, Change Control, CAPA support, and documentation.

  • Personal Traits:

    • A keen eye for detail and strong analytical thinking skills.

    • Driven by continuous improvement and well-organized with strong time-keeping skills.
