About the Role

The Manager, Clinical Data Management (CDM) is responsible for leading and supporting a team of data management professionals to deliver high-quality clinical databases that meet client and regulatory requirements. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and operational excellence, ensuring timely, compliant, and efficient data management services across clinical projects.


Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage and mentor a team of Clinical Data Management professionals.

  • Conduct bi-monthly meetings with direct reports to review project progress, deliverables, utilization, and professional development.

  • Identify and address training needs, ensuring staff are compliant with SOPs and study requirements.

  • Support professional growth through mentorship in CDM systems, processes, and clinical research practices.

  • Ensure coverage and continuity during staff absences or transitions.

2. Operational Oversight

  • Oversee and provide expert review of Data Management deliverables including:

    • Case Report Forms (CRF/eCRF)

    • Database design, setup, and validation

    • Data Management Plans (DMPs)

    • Database deliverables for internal and external clients

  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance across all deliverables.

  • Provide technical advice and operational solutions to internal teams and clients.

  • Participate in bid defenses, kickoff meetings, and audit activities as required.

3. Strategic & Financial Management

  • Collaborate with project leads to forecast workload, resource needs, and technology requirements.

  • Contribute to proposal development, including RFIs, RFPs, and budgets.

  • Apply strong understanding of project financials including forecasting, burn rate monitoring, and out-of-scope (OOS) management.

  • Drive both short-term and long-term business and financial performance.

4. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a bridge between leadership and operational teams — ensuring efficient two-way communication.

  • Clearly articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to senior management and clients.

  • Maintain effective working relationships across cross-functional teams, clients, and internal departments.

5. Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all CDM activities comply with Good Clinical Practices (GCP), SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Support and prepare for internal and external audits/inspections.

  • Develop and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement and global process consistency.

  • Continuously identify opportunities for efficiency and innovation in CDM processes.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical, Biological, or Mathematical Sciences, or a Nursing qualification.

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant Data Management experience, including people management.

  • Advanced knowledge of clinical data management processes, systems, and deliverables.

  • Strong understanding of clinical drug development and data lifecycle.

  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and motivational skills.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently.

  • Strong decision-making and risk assessment capabilities.

  • Sound understanding of project finance (EAC, forecasting, burn rate, OOS).

Preferred:

  • Experience in a global, matrixed environment with shared service delivery models.

  • Demonstrated success in proposal support, bid defenses, and audit readiness.
