Job Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced Business Operations Manager to support the Medical Writing Department and contribute to the operational success of the department. This role will support the Medical Writing Strategic Resourcing Lead (SRL) and collaborate with the Medical Writing Leadership Team (MWLT) to optimize time, resources, and activities for maximum impact on patient outcomes. Additionally, the manager will play a critical role in identifying and accelerating operational activities aligned with the Global Clinical Operations (GCO) strategy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support: Provide daily operational support to the SRL, contributing to the smooth functioning of the Medical Writing department.

  • Organize Departmental Activities: Coordinate departmental activities to reduce inefficiencies and ensure resources and time are used effectively.

  • Enhance Operational Efficiency: Leverage technology to optimize existing tools and improve operational processes.

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Analysis: Develop and analyze KPIs, providing insights and implementing strategies to drive productivity improvements across the portfolio.

  • MWLT Meetings Planning: Assist in organizing MWLT meetings, including preparing agendas, identifying stakeholders, tracking decisions and actions, and maintaining risk logs.

  • Strategic Planning & Recommendations: Support strategic planning efforts and provide recommendations that drive business transformation within the Medical Writing department.

  • Business Benefit Analysis: Conduct business benefit analyses, including return-on-investment assessments, and integrate key information to ensure timely project and milestone delivery.

  • Diverse Work Packages: Lead and contribute to various work packages, adapting to diverse situations and environments.

  • Stakeholder Navigation: Manage relationships with multiple stakeholders in complex, ambiguous environments, influencing decisions and achieving results.

  • Relationship Building & Strategic Thinking: Build strong relationships, influence stakeholders, and think strategically about issues affecting medical writing and its broader organizational impact.


Education and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline or science, with additional certifications/experience in project/program management, resource management, change management, or finance.

Key Requirements:

  • Industry Experience: Extensive experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO, or related sectors, with a proven ability to deliver in a matrix-driven environment.

  • Decision Navigation: Expertise in navigating decisions and executing tasks through multiple parties in large, matrixed organizations.

  • R&D Knowledge: Broad understanding of research and development (R&D) processes.

  • Project Management: Proven experience managing strategic and operational business projects, structuring projects to meet objectives, and understanding change management principles.

  • Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills with the ability to draw actionable conclusions from data, even when quantitative evidence is limited.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
