Position Overview
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Oncology is a field-based position covering California, Arizona, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii. This role is a part of the US Medical Affairs team and focuses on developing and enhancing relationships with medical thought leaders and healthcare providers involved in oncology. The MSL will provide scientific support through clinical and scientific exchange, support data generation activities, and assist with medical education initiatives.

The role requires professionals with established scientific credibility who can engage with thought leaders and academic centers, providing objective and evidence-based information regarding Jazz Pharmaceuticals' oncology products and research.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • KOL Development and Field Engagement

    • Identify and build relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers in oncology.
    • Develop and execute territory plans aligned with US Medical Affairs strategies.
    • Gather insights from KOLs and communicate them to relevant departments.
    • Participate in medical education through presentations at healthcare institutions, national conferences, advisory boards, and regional meetings.
    • Support sales training initiatives and provide scientific support at medical congresses.
  • Scientific Expertise and Support

    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of oncology, Jazz products, and emerging research trends.
    • Establish a reputation as a credible scientific source for healthcare professionals.
    • Support Jazz Pharmaceuticals as a scientific authority in oncology by attending scientific congresses and KOL activities.
    • Provide clinical presentations and answer unsolicited scientific queries in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings.
    • Facilitate data generation activities such as company-sponsored studies, collaboration studies, and Investigator-Sponsored Trials (ISTs).
  • Medical Affairs Planning and Execution

    • Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and local strategy execution.
    • Manage relevant budgets to ensure the effective execution of tactics within the Medical Plan.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain a Key Account Management approach.
    • Support advisory boards, speaker development, and clinical trials as a scientific resource.
    • Maintain company standards and Jazz values while promoting scientific exchange.
  • Compliance and Reporting

    • Ensure compliance with national and local codes of practice.
    • Act as an ambassador for Jazz Pharmaceuticals, upholding company mission and values.
    • Adhere to reporting standards for adverse events and product complaints according to Jazz’s policy.
    • Maintain a written development plan and provide timely reports as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability and willingness to travel 60-70% of the time, including driving.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Knowledge of the geography, healthcare environment, and external experts in oncology.
  • Experience in developing relationships with opinion leaders in oncology.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
  • Experience as a Medical Science Liaison or in a similar industry or clinical role.
  • Experience in oncology is highly preferred.

Required Education

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) with at least 3 years of experience in oncology.
  • Alternatively, a clinical degree (RN, NP, CNP, PA, or equivalent) with at least a Master's degree and 5 years of oncology clinical practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an MSL or in a comparable industry/clinical role.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequent travel between meeting sites.
  • Frequent use of office machinery, including computers, printers, and telephones.
  • Regular public contact and the need to adhere to appropriate business attire.
  • Responsibilities may require working outside of normal hours to meet business demands.
  • Frequent interactions with external contacts in their office environments with minimal exposure to noise, dust, and temperature changes.

Compensation and Benefits
The full and complete base pay range for this role is $152,000.00 - $228,000.00, depending on qualifications, experience, and skills. Compensation may include a discretionary annual cash bonus, incentive compensation, and equity grants, in accordance with Jazz’s compensation plans.
