Job Purpose:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical professional who brings deep expertise in specific disease areas, Lilly products, and competitive landscapes. The MSL plays a pivotal role in facilitating scientific exchanges between the scientific community and Lilly, delivering important information to address clinical and scientific questions, and providing strategic insights to inform research direction. Through these efforts, MSLs help shape the future of healthcare and contribute to advancing patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and Communicate Deep Scientific Knowledge:

  • Engage in continuous learning to stay current with the latest scientific and clinical developments within the therapeutic area.
  • Establish credibility as a reliable, trusted resource for scientific and medical knowledge, providing unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date information to scientific experts and healthcare professionals.

Excel at Customer Engagement and Support Medical/Scientific Information Needs:

  • Spend the majority of time field-based and engaging with scientific experts through two-way dialogues.
  • Address customer inquiries by providing advanced disease state and product information.
  • Connect scientific experts with relevant Lilly resources and internal business partners and identify opportunities for collaborative research or external collaborations.

Strategic Vision and Leadership:

  • Synthesize complex data and effectively communicate clinical insights to Lilly medical and cross-functional teams.
  • Use creative problem-solving to develop solutions and escalate challenges when needed.
  • Cultivate internal networks and collaborate across functions to contribute to medical planning and strategy within the affiliate.

Territory Ownership:

  • Prioritize and plan territory activities strategically to maximize impact.
  • Take accountability for the execution of territory plans, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements and adhering to ethical standards.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD) required, with a preference for a Medical Degree or relevant therapeutic area experience.
  • Previous experience as an MSL or in a field-based role building relationships with scientific experts and Key Opinion Leaders is highly desired.
  • Experience in providing complex scientific information to customers and engaging in professional networking.

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, with occasional weekend work.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity about the scientific field represented.
  • Agility to quickly learn and communicate large amounts of complex scientific content clearly.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in the field.
  • Advanced presentation skills and expertise in literature identification.
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to analyze and interpret scientific data.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong teamwork, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building skills.
