Position Overview
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based position within the Canadian Medical Affairs organization. MSLs develop and enhance professional relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers (HCPs) in the therapeutic areas of Hematology/Oncology. They provide scientific support and medical information, and contribute to Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ medical education efforts. This role covers Western Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan and involves frequent interaction with academic centers of excellence and leading clinicians.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • KOL Development and Engagement

    • Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with KOLs and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
    • Develop and execute territory plans aligned with US Medical Affairs strategies.
    • Share clinical and research insights from KOLs with appropriate departments.
    • Participate in medical education activities, such as presentations, investigator meetings, advisory boards, and national/regional conferences.
  • Scientific Expertise and Support

    • Stay current on the latest developments in the therapeutic area, including Jazz products, emerging research, and competitive landscape.
    • Provide clinical presentations and respond to unsolicited questions in academic and healthcare settings.
    • Communicate emerging data and clinical experiences through scientific exchanges.
    • Support data generation activities, including company-sponsored studies, investigator-initiated studies (IITS), and clinical trials.
  • Medical Affairs Planning and Execution

    • Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and local strategies.
    • Manage relevant budgets to execute Medical Plan tactics as part of the wider team.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to ensure effective account management.
    • Engage with HCPs on activities such as advisory boards, speaker development, and clinical trials.
  • Professionalism and Compliance

    • Act as a trusted scientific resource and ambassador for Jazz Pharmaceuticals, enhancing the company's reputation in medical advancement.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant codes of practice, and report adverse events and product complaints as required.
    • Maintain high ethical standards and integrity in all professional interactions.

  • Proficiency with digital platforms and tools.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Willingness to travel at least 60% of workdays; valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with the healthcare environment and external experts in academia.
  • Experience in oncology and as a Medical Science Liaison.
  • Strong track record in establishing relationships with opinion leaders in the therapeutic area.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) with at least 3 years of experience in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Alternatively, a clinical degree (RN, NP, PA) with at least 5 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an MSL or in a comparable clinical or industry role.
  • Applicants must be willing to travel 60-70% of the time and live within 60 miles of a major airport.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent travel to various meeting sites.
  • Regular use of computer and other office equipment.

Work Environment

  • Frequent interactions with external contacts in their office environments.
  • Frequent use of a laptop or tablet while traveling, not typically in a fixed office workstation.
  • Occasional work outside of normal hours to meet business demands.
  • Professional business attire required for public interactions.

Compensation
For this role, the full base pay range is $126,400.00 - $189,600.00 based on qualifications, experience, and other factors. Compensation may also include annual bonuses, discretionary equity grants, and participation in various benefit offerings, including extended health care, dental, life insurance, RRSP, and paid vacation.
