Role Summary

AstraZeneca is seeking a Medical Director – Multiple Myeloma to join the US Medical Affairs Hematology Team. This role drives the development and execution of US Medical Plans for Multiple Myeloma, supporting the broader Hematology Franchise. The Medical Director will shape medical strategy, ensure cross-functional alignment, engage key external experts, and support scientific communication across Cell Therapy and Antibody Drug Conjugate initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

1. Medical Strategy & Planning

  • Lead development and execution of the Multiple Myeloma components of the US Medical Plan.

  • Focus on Cell Therapy and Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs).

  • Ensure alignment with franchise objectives and US Medical Affairs strategy.

2. Scientific Communication & Insights

  • Develop scientific messaging and medical education programs aligned with brand and medical strategy.

  • Provide clinical/medical insights to Oncology Brand Teams.

  • Act as a scientific bridge between external experts and internal brand leadership.

3. External Collaboration & Advocacy

  • Engage key clinical investigators for clinical trials, collaborative studies, and research partnerships.

  • Build strong relationships with US external scientific experts and thought leaders.

4. Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the Brand Leadership Team.

  • Collaborate across Medical Affairs functions, including Field Medical (MSL), Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial, and Market Access.

  • Support integration of medical strategy across all stakeholder groups.

5. Program Management & Execution

  • Manage diverse responsibilities across clinical programs, medical planning, and operational execution.

  • Support program oversight, timelines, and cross-functional alignment.

  • Uphold high scientific and ethical standards.

6. Travel

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.


Essential Qualifications

  • Advanced life science degree: MD, NP, PharmD, PhD (or equivalent).

  • >3 years experience managing clinical or medical programs in team-based environments.

  • Strong understanding of medical strategy, clinical development, and Medical Science Liaison functions.

  • Experience in Hematology/Oncology.

  • Ability to manage diverse and complex responsibilities.

  • Strong leadership and strategic influencing skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical drug development and medical/scientific affairs.

  • Direct experience in clinical trial management.

  • Hematology experience, particularly in Multiple Myeloma and/or Cellular Therapies.

  • 5+ years experience in strategy-setting roles within Medical Affairs.

  • Working knowledge of FDA requirements.

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with digital information/technology systems.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Base Pay: $193,282 – $241,602

  • Overtime pay for eligible employees (hourly/salaried non-exempt).

  • Eligibility for:

    • Short-term incentive bonus

    • Long-term equity-based incentives (salaried roles)

    • Commission payments (sales roles)
