Job Overview

Amgen is seeking an experienced Manager, Logistics to lead global logistics operations supporting R&D activities in Hyderabad, India. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing biospecimen logistics, regulated clinical shipments, supplier performance management, and operational governance across international markets.

As part of Amgen’s R&D Operations organization, the Manager, Logistics will ensure the seamless movement, storage, tracking, and reconciliation of biospecimens, clinical trial materials, equipment, and devices in compliance with global regulatory standards. The role also drives continuous improvement initiatives, vendor oversight, and implementation of advanced, AI-driven logistics solutions to enhance efficiency and compliance.

This position reports to the Biospecimen Logistics Director and plays a critical role in supporting clinical trial timelines and regulatory integrity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead global logistics operations for biospecimens, clinical devices, and research equipment, including receiving, storage, shipment, tracking, and reconciliation.

  • Ensure compliance with GCP, GLP, CLIA, and international import/export regulations for regulated clinical trials.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for integrator and courier issues impacting R&D shipments.

  • Manage vendor performance, including logistics suppliers and bioanalytical laboratories, using defined KPIs and service-level agreements.

  • Oversee clinical sample transport, reagent logistics, and storage operations to ensure quality and regulatory adherence.

  • Establish, monitor, and report logistics performance metrics, quality indicators, and risk assessments.

  • Lead resolution of deviations, shipment delays, compliance risks, and operational disruptions.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize logistics reliability, efficiency, and compliance.

  • Maintain accurate tracking and reconciliation of biospecimens and equipment within enterprise logistics and sample management systems.

  • Leverage enterprise platforms, reporting tools, spreadsheets, and analytics systems to monitor logistics risks and performance.

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of AI-driven logistics solutions supporting R&D commodities.

  • Support staff development, operational strategy execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Participate in enterprise-wide initiatives to improve R&D operational effectiveness.


Basic Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • Doctorate degree with 2 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations or supplier management experience
    OR

  • Master’s degree with 4 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations or supplier management experience
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations or supplier management experience
    OR

  • Associate’s degree with 8 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations or supplier management experience
    OR

  • High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations or supplier management experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Medical, Clinical, or Health Sciences.

  • Proven leadership experience in pharmaceutical or biotech logistics, clinical supply chain management, or biospecimen operations.

  • Strong expertise in global shipping compliance, import/export regulations, and regulated clinical environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams within matrixed organizations.

  • Experience in supplier governance, contract management, and vendor performance optimization.

  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives.

  • Strong analytical capabilities with hands-on experience using:

    • Microsoft Access

    • Tableau

    • Smartsheet

    • Veeva

    • Planisware

    • MS Project

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to implement operational strategies and deliver measurable performance improvements.
