Job Overview

Amgen is hiring a Sr. Associate, R&D Operations – Business & Financial Planning to support strategic financial execution and operational planning within its R&D organization in Hyderabad, India.

This role partners closely with R&D functional leaders, Finance planners, and senior leadership to deliver accurate budget planning, quarterly forecasting, financial analytics, and operational reporting. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted business partner to VP-level functional leads, ensuring financial transparency, budget discipline, and data-driven decision-making across the R&D portfolio.

This opportunity is ideal for professionals with experience in biopharmaceutical business operations, R&D financial planning, forecasting, SAP/enterprise systems, and cross-functional collaboration.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Support end-to-end budget execution processes for one or more VP-level R&D functions, including:

    • Annual Budget Planning

    • Quarterly Forecast Updates

    • Leadership Reporting

  • Ensure financial forecasts accurately reflect functional priorities and operational plans.

  • Partner with R&D Finance planners to analyze variances, identify emerging trends, and explain financial performance drivers.

  • Execute quarter-end close activities including accrual management and purchase order (PO) maintenance.

  • Maintain accurate mapping of transactions to planned activities within budget planning systems.

Business Operations & Analytics

  • Deliver periodic financial analytics and reporting to senior leadership.

  • Provide ad hoc financial and operational analysis across defined categories or functional areas.

  • Serve as an experienced user of enterprise financial planning and reporting systems.

  • Support resolution of escalated Procure-to-Pay (P2P) issues.

  • Contribute business partner insights to corporate finance initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with functional Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members to ensure forecasts reflect the latest strategic priorities.

  • Act as a liaison between R&D Operations and Finance teams.

  • Build strong working relationships across matrixed teams and global stakeholders.


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree
    OR

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of biotech/pharma-related management experience in business operations or financial analytics
    OR

  • Associate’s degree with 6 years of biotech/pharma-related management experience in business operations or financial analytics


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Life Sciences.

  • Prior experience in an R&D financial planning or budgeting role within biotech/pharma.

  • At least 6 years of experience working in cross-functional environments.

  • Strong proficiency in:

    • Microsoft Excel (advanced capabilities)

    • MS Office Suite

  • Experience with enterprise systems such as:

    • SAP

    • Ariba

    • Anaplan

  • Proficiency with data visualization and collaboration tools:

    • Tableau

    • Smartsheet

    • Miro

    • MS Teams

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial compliance requirements.
