Job Overview

Cencora is seeking an experienced Manager, Drug Safety Physician to join its Pharmacovigilance, Epidemiology, and Risk Management function in India. This senior medical role is ideal for physicians with extensive expertise in drug safety and pharmacovigilance who are passionate about safeguarding patient health and supporting regulatory-compliant safety operations across global pharmaceutical products.

The successful candidate will provide medical oversight of Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs), ensure high-quality medical review, and mentor pharmacovigilance professionals while contributing to complex safety decision-making across multiple therapeutic areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial medical assessment and in-depth medical review of Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs) within the safety database

  • Verify accurate selection and documentation of adverse events from source documents, including seriousness criteria, MedDRA coding, suspect and concomitant medications, laboratory data, medical history, labeling, causality assessment, and case narratives

  • Provide Company Causality Assessment and detailed medical comments within the safety database

  • Review and respond to queries or comments from case owners during the medical review workflow

  • Identify and escalate complex or high-risk safety cases to the Team Lead or Line Manager as appropriate

  • Define, document, and request follow-up information required to complete medical assessment of safety cases

  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of medical review decisions and rationale in the safety database

  • Train, guide, and mentor pharmacovigilance associates on adverse event identification, event capturing, and global PV conventions

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product safety profiles, labeling, and risk management considerations across therapeutic areas


Required Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) is mandatory

  • Postgraduate qualification in any medical discipline is preferred but not mandatory


Required Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety

  • Proven experience in medical review of ICSRs and safety decision-making within a regulated environment


Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of global pharmacovigilance regulations, safety reporting standards, and medical assessment principles

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams

  • High level of accountability, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure

  • Service-oriented mindset with prior exposure to pharmaceutical, life sciences, or corporate consulting environments preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to team development
