Job Overview
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd is seeking an experienced Manager – Biotechnology to lead downstream process development within its Biological Drug Substance Unit. This strategic role focuses on the design, development, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing of purified recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies.
The position requires strong technical leadership, operational excellence, and deep expertise in downstream bioprocessing to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of clinical and development batches.
Key Responsibilities
Downstream Process Leadership
Establish, lead, and manage the downstream processing group within the Biological Drug Substance Unit.
Provide process and operations-based expertise to ensure delivery of purification processes and clinical batches on time and within budget.
Oversee downstream process development activities for recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies.
Process Development & Scale-Up
Design, plan, operate, and monitor downstream processes for development, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing.
Apply expertise in chromatographic systems, tangential flow filtration (TFF), and filtration technologies.
Ensure robust understanding and application of downstream process scale-up principles.
Interpret experimental, analytical, and process data using standard scientific and statistical tools.
Technical Documentation & Compliance
Author and review key technical and regulatory documents including BMRs, SOPs, investigational protocols, and development reports.
Ensure processes and documentation align with internal quality standards and regulatory expectations.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor and guide junior scientists and associates by providing scientific, technical, and operational leadership.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on innovation, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Educational Qualifications
M.Tech / M.Sc. / PhD in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biochemical Engineering
Experience Requirements
12–15 years of relevant industry experience in downstream process development and biopharmaceutical manufacturing
Proven experience with large molecule purification, including recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies
Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and complex development programs
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong expertise in downstream bioprocessing and purification technologies
Proficiency with chromatographic systems, TFF, and filtration systems
Ability to analyze and interpret complex analytical and process data
Excellent documentation, scientific writing, and communication skills
Strong leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration capabilities
Sound understanding of GMP manufacturing and regulatory expectations
