Job Summary:

The Specialty Oncology Clinical Pharmacist at St. Elizabeth Healthcare is responsible for direct patient care in our specialty pharmacy. This role involves optimizing specialty medication therapies to improve patient outcomes, safety, and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate will have experience in specialty pharmacy and oncology.

The Outpatient Pharmacist will provide medications and counseling based on prescriptions from registered healthcare practitioners. They will ensure medication accuracy, monitor for necessary interventions, and offer guidance on over-the-counter products while ensuring there are no contraindications. Additionally, the pharmacist will maintain sound accounting practices and oversee the outpatient pharmacy process. The pharmacist may also be required to be on call to support the specialty pharmacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service, following AIDET protocols.
  • Review and monitor patient treatment medications for appropriateness based on clinical and institutional guidelines and patient-specific needs.
  • Provide professional verification of prescription filling and offsite orders, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Offer timely, accurate, and adequate drug information to patients, medical staff, and nursing teams.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy interns and technicians, ensuring task completion and encouraging the use of the AIDET model in interactions.
  • Maintain inventory management and order medications from the appropriate wholesaler while adhering to accounting principles and budget goals.
  • Act as a liaison to other departments, including Hospice, Social Service, SDS, Meds to Beds, Specialty Pharmacy, and provider offices.
  • Maintain professional competency by staying current with pharmacy practices and completing required assessments.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and standards set by agencies such as the State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS, FDA, and The Joint Commission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Credentials:

  • Graduate from an NABP-accredited pharmacy college.
  • Current US pharmacist license in the state of practice.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with current practice standards (ASHP).

Experience:

  • Previous pharmacy experience required.
