As an Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison (AD MSL), you will join a therapeutically aligned MSL team under the Field-Based Medicine (FBM) division. Reporting to the MSL Senior Associate Director, you will focus on scientific exchange (SE) with Scientific Experts (SCEs) and gather insights that influence strategic decision-making. You will act as a scientific resource for external stakeholders (e.g., healthcare providers, payer accounts) and internal teams within Medicine and Commercial divisions.

This role involves cultivating meaningful relationships with SCEs, providing education on therapeutic areas, and ensuring scientific excellence in alignment with compliance requirements.


Duties & Responsibilities

1. Customer Interactions and Scientific Exchange

  • Conduct proactive, field-based scientific exchange with prioritized SCEs to support therapeutic area (TA) Scientific Objectives (SOs).
  • Build and maintain scientific relationships with SCEs while understanding regional healthcare systems, disease management, and treatment protocols.
  • Act as a scientific resource to answer questions about TA, disease states, and BI compounds.
  • Provide disease-state education and support for therapeutic areas.
  • Engage with payer accounts and integrated delivery networks as a scientific expert, when required.

2. Planning and Support

  • Develop and execute a medical engagement plan aligned with management and TA SOs.
  • Identify and address gaps between BIPI's offerings and customer needs.
  • Adjust engagement plans as necessary to meet TA objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop scientific materials and identify training needs.
  • Support clinical trial activities, investigator-initiated studies (IIS), and external collaborative research efforts.
  • Stay updated on TA-specific scientific literature to maintain technical expertise.

3. Insight Generation and Reporting

  • Document and share field-generated scientific insights to inform internal strategies.
  • Identify trends in the healthcare landscape affecting access and care delivery.
  • Participate in discussions with the MSL team to analyze insights and stimulate scientific exploration.

4. Leadership and Coaching

  • Mentor newly hired MSLs by sharing best practices, communication techniques, and guidance on medical engagement planning.
  • Lead special projects or initiatives to advance understanding within therapeutic areas or improve FBM operations.

5. Collaboration

  • Partner with internal FBM teams, Medicine, and Commercial stakeholders to execute scientific and operational objectives.
  • Share insights and best practices across therapeutic areas to drive scientific innovation.

Requirements

Education and Experience

For MSL Level:

  • BSc required, plus one of the following:
    • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD) with 1+ years of experience (preferred).
    • Master’s in health sciences with 3+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience.
    • BSc or BSN with MBA and 5+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience.
    • PA with 3+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience.
    • Other medical licensure (RPh, RRT) with 7+ years of experience.

For Associate Director Level:

  • BSc required, plus one of the following:
    • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD) with 3+ years of experience (preferred).
    • Master’s in health sciences with 5+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience.
    • BSc or BSN with MBA and 7+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience.
    • PA with 5+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience.
    • Other medical licensure (RPh, RRT) with 9+ years of experience.
  • MSL Experience: 2+ years required; 4+ years preferred.

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • Strong communication and scientific interpretation skills.
  • Familiarity with regional healthcare systems.
  • Proficiency with electronic tools and remote collaboration platforms.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% for field-based interactions.

Eligibility

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction.
  • Must pass a drug test and post-offer physical (if applicable).
  • Must be 18 years or older.
