Job Overview

AbbVie is offering a full-time internship in Neuroscience Molecular Biomarkers within its Translational Sciences group, part of the Neuroscience Discovery Research organization based in Ludwigshafen, Germany. This internship provides a unique opportunity for motivated life science students to contribute to cutting-edge biomarker research focused on neurodegenerative diseases in a highly collaborative, industry-based research environment.

The selected intern will play an active role in developing and optimizing molecular and cellular biomarker assays that support neuroscience drug discovery programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize protein biomarker assays, including ELISA-based methodologies

  • Perform PBMC (Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell) isolation, processing, and analysis

  • Plan, execute, analyze, and interpret experimental studies under the guidance of experienced scientists

  • Maintain detailed experimental documentation and laboratory notebooks in compliance with research standards

  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as microplate readers and automated liquid handling systems

  • Analyze experimental data using appropriate scientific software tools and present findings clearly

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional research teams to support biomarker identification initiatives


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Currently enrolled Master’s-level student (or final-year undergraduate equivalent) in:

    • Neuroscience

    • Biochemistry

    • Cellular & Molecular Biology

    • Life Sciences or related disciplines

  • Hands-on laboratory experience in protein biochemistry and molecular or cellular biology (academic or research lab experience required)

  • Comfortable handling human blood samples from both healthy volunteers and patient populations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Ability to structure, document, and present scientific data with clarity and accuracy

  • High scientific rigor, attention to detail, and commitment to research quality

  • Demonstrated curiosity, flexibility, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced research setting

  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
