Head of Medical Affairs – South Asia | Abbott

Job Summary

Abbott is seeking an experienced Head of Medical Affairs – South Asia to lead its Medical and Clinical Affairs division in Mumbai. This pivotal role drives the scientific and medical strategy for diabetes care across the South Asia region. The successful candidate will oversee clinical research initiatives, establish strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), provide scientific input for marketing strategies, and ensure medical excellence across affiliate activities. The role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of diabetes management and contribute to Abbott’s leadership in medical innovation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain in-depth scientific knowledge of assigned products and therapeutic areas.

  • Deliver expert medical/scientific guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Establish credible relationships with KOLs and academic centers; coordinate advisory boards and scientific sessions.

  • Support the design, oversight, and execution of local Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS).

  • Provide scientific support for regulatory affairs processes, including clinical reports.

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure scientific accuracy in promotional materials via VEEVA.

  • Offer medical insights to inform marketing strategies and commercial initiatives.

  • Monitor and report competitor activities, market trends, and scientific breakthroughs.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, ethical, and company policies.

  • Support sales and marketing teams through scientific updates and internal training sessions.

  • Provide expert input for digital engagement programs and educational initiatives.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in pharmaceutical or medical device industry.

  • Graduate/Post-Graduate degree in Medical Sciences or Pharmacology preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical research and drug development processes.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong presentation skills.

  • Proven leadership, networking, and stakeholder relationship-building abilities.

  • High customer and KOL orientation with a scientific integrity mindset.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Willingness to travel 30-40% across the South Asia region.

  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and priority-setting skills.
