Position Overview

The Head of Medical Affairs & Scientific Affairs will lead strategic medical and scientific operations for the Infectious Disease (ID) business unit. Reporting directly to the Business Unit President, this leadership role is central to shaping innovation strategies, R&D pipelines, market expansion, and product lifecycle management.

This role requires deep expertise in Infectious Diseases, strong cross-functional leadership, and the ability to drive global medical strategy across diverse markets.

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics business, supporting advanced diagnostic testing solutions that enable informed clinical decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and integrate Medical Affairs and Scientific Affairs teams across the Infectious Disease portfolio

  • Establish and optimize processes, tools, and systems to support compliant, efficient, and effective operations

  • Identify emerging global medical needs and contribute strategic insights to new product development and in-market product enhancement

  • Drive global medical and scientific strategies, including KOL engagement, regulatory interactions, and post-market surveillance

  • Review and approve medical documents, scientific assessments, and customer education materials

  • Act as the primary medical representative for external regulatory agencies, scientific bodies, and professional organizations

  • Provide high-level medical and scientific expertise during customer interactions

  • Lead, mentor, and develop medical and scientific directors

  • Ensure full adherence to Office of Ethics and Compliance guidelines


Required Qualifications

  • MD degree with clinical experience in Infectious Diseases

  • Minimum 10 years of medical and clinical experience

  • At least 5 years of industry experience within diagnostics, biologics, or related fields

  • Strong understanding of global regulations and standards related to IVDs and biologics

  • Established Key Opinion Leader (KOL) presence with a strong publication record in Infectious Diseases

  • Proven leadership experience, with strengths in strategic decision-making, critical thinking, problem-solving, and team development

  • Expertise in product development, clinical strategy, and customer insights


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working across global markets, especially in developed regions

  • Prior leadership roles in medical affairs within multinational healthcare or diagnostics companies
