Job Description

As the Group Leader – Synthesis, you will lead a team of 10-30 chemists and oversee multiple projects within the Synthesis department. You will play a key role in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel chemical compounds to support drug discovery and development. The position requires close coordination with cross-functional teams, client communications, and ensuring compliance with laboratory best practices and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 10-30 chemists, ensuring the successful execution of multiple ongoing projects.
  • Prepare and present weekly updates on project progress, liaising with clients and internal teams.
  • Synthesize, purify, and characterize novel chemical compounds to meet project objectives.
  • Perform literature searches to determine the best synthetic routes for compounds.
  • Coordinate with analytical laboratories and other cross-functional departments to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Participate in SOP training and other departmental training on a regular basis.
  • Manage solvents, reagents, standards, and chemicals used in the lab.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) and quality SOPs in daily operations.
  • Deliver small to large quantities of novel chemical entities for drug discovery and development.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: PhD in Chemistry or related field; Post-Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience: 8-15 years of experience in a CRO or reputed pharmaceutical company, with a strong background in synthesis.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of chemists.
  • Expertise in organic synthesis, purification, and characterization of chemical compounds.
  • Strong understanding of GLP, EHS, and quality SOPs.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency in literature search and synthetic route planning.
  • Ability to manage lab resources efficiently, including solvents, reagents, and chemicals.
