Job Overview

Novo Nordisk is seeking an experienced Global Medical Advisor (Lead Medical Advisor – IO-SO, Diabetes) to join the Medical Affairs – Operations GBS team in Bangalore. This strategic leadership role focuses on shaping global medical strategy, scientific engagement, and therapy area positioning within diabetes across International Operations and Strategic Operations (IO-SO).

The position is designed for senior medical affairs professionals with strong clinical expertise in diabetes, a proven record in pharmaceutical drug development, and experience driving global medical initiatives in matrixed organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of global medical affairs strategy aligned with organizational and therapy area priorities.

  • Serve as subject matter expert for assigned diabetes product(s) and strategic initiatives.

  • Interpret and communicate complex clinical data to support lifecycle planning, value positioning, and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Drive publication strategy and oversee scientific content development for abstracts, posters, and manuscripts.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, professional societies, and research bodies.

  • Represent the organization at international congresses, advisory boards, and scientific symposia.

  • Translate scientific insights, KOL feedback, and market intelligence into actionable medical strategy.

  • Provide cross-functional medical support to marketing, regulatory, legal, public affairs, and safety teams.

  • Lead and mentor junior medical colleagues while contributing to high-impact cross-functional projects.

  • Leverage digital tools and AI-driven insights to enhance data interpretation and medical planning.

Internal Stakeholders: Global Medical Affairs (HQ), International Operations, Regional & Affiliate Medical Teams, Field Medical Force, Marketing, R&D, Regulatory, Quality, and Global Safety.

External Stakeholders: KOLs, healthcare professionals, investigators, academic institutions, research agencies, health authorities, and patient associations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • MD, PhD, or equivalent advanced degree in Medicine, Life Sciences, or related healthcare discipline.

  • Minimum 5–8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in clinical or medical roles, with prior senior-level Medical Affairs experience preferred.

  • Strong clinical and/or research background in diabetes mellitus; experience in endocrinology is highly desirable.

  • Proven expertise in drug development, evidence generation, and healthcare systems.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, independent decision-making, and cross-functional leadership skills.

  • Experience working in global, matrixed organizations.

  • Strong scientific communication and presentation skills with ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience leading publication planning and scientific content governance.

  • Proficiency in digital tools, analytics platforms, and data-driven medical strategy execution.

Role Scope and Travel

This role is based in Bangalore with global responsibilities across regions and affiliates. Approximately 5% international travel is expected for congresses, advisory boards, and internal strategic meetings.
