Position Overview

Abbott’s Heart Failure Division is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Global Director, Clinical Insights Development. This leadership role is based in Pleasanton, California and forms a key part of the Global Clinical and Regulatory Affairs team. The Director will drive data-driven, patient-centric innovation to improve heart failure management, enhance patient and provider experiences, and generate impactful clinical evidence to support global scientific and regulatory needs.

This role requires strategic leadership, expertise in data science/AI, and deep understanding of clinical workflows in heart failure and medical device ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Innovation Strategy

  • Develop a global innovation strategy for heart failure technologies based on clinical data, insights, and unmet needs.

  • Define long-term data science vision aligned with business goals and patient outcomes.

2. Execution and Roadmap Development

  • Build and manage a clear execution roadmap, including budgeting, resource planning, and cross-functional alignment.

  • Collaborate with R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Reimbursement teams.

  • Partner with external researchers, clinicians, and scientific leaders to advance innovation programs.

3. Clinical Evidence Generation

  • Develop evidence generation and dissemination strategies to support global regulatory submissions, scientific acceptance, and reimbursement pathways.

  • Lead clinical insights initiatives that support novel algorithms, diagnostics, and monitoring solutions.

4. Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing team specializing in clinical data analysis, machine learning, AI, and data engineering.

  • Guide algorithm development to better understand disease progression in heart failure patients.

5. Infrastructure & Data Governance

  • Establish advanced computational and analytical infrastructure to support data science operations.

  • Ensure compliance with global data privacy standards and regulatory requirements in collaboration with IT and privacy teams.

6. External Collaboration & Industry Impact

  • Foster collaborations with academic institutions, healthcare partners, and key opinion leaders.

  • Represent Abbott at global conferences, scientific panels, and peer-reviewed publications, reinforcing the company’s leadership in clinical insights.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s, MBA, or PhD in a medical, scientific, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Minimum 12+ years of experience working with commercial teams, healthcare professionals, and key opinion leaders to identify clinical workflow challenges and develop data-driven solutions.

  • Proven expertise building and managing data science teams within a cross-functional medical device environment.

  • Strong understanding of clinical evidence generation, regulatory requirements, and global healthcare ecosystems.

  • Global experience strongly preferred.
