Position Overview

Abbott is seeking a Global Director of Clinical Insights Development to lead innovation and clinical evidence generation within the Heart Failure Division. This senior leadership role, reporting to the Divisional Vice President, will drive patient-centric solutions using advanced data analytics, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify patient management, reduce healthcare provider workload, and enhance the overall patient experience.

The role includes building and managing a high-performing global team of data scientists and clinical experts while collaborating across R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and external partners. The ideal candidate combines scientific expertise, strategic leadership, and global experience in medical device data-driven innovation.


Key Responsibilities

Data Innovation Strategy

  • Develop a global data-driven innovation strategy for Heart Failure Division products, integrating clinical insights to guide R&D and commercial initiatives.

  • Translate complex data into actionable insights for clinical, regulatory, and commercial decision-making.

Execution & Operational Roadmap

  • Create and implement a global execution roadmap, including resource allocation, budgets, and timelines.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external experts to drive execution of clinical insights initiatives.

Evidence Generation

  • Lead the development of evidence generation strategies to support regulatory approval, scientific acceptance, and reimbursement of data-driven innovations.

  • Oversee the analysis and dissemination of clinical and real-world data.

Team Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a global team of clinical data scientists, data engineers, and AI specialists.

  • Guide the development of ML/AI algorithms to model disease progression and improve patient outcomes.

Infrastructure & Data Governance

  • Establish computational infrastructure to support advanced analytics and AI initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with all data privacy regulations, IT policies, and professional standards.

External Collaboration & Industry Influence

  • Develop strategic partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare providers, and research organizations.

  • Represent Abbott at industry conferences, panels, and in peer-reviewed publications, establishing external recognition as a clinical insights expert.


Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Masters, MBA, or PhD) in medical, scientific, or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 12+ years of experience in healthcare, medical devices, or diagnostics, with proven expertise in commercial collaboration, HCP engagement, and data-driven solutions.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience building and managing cross-functional teams, particularly in data science, clinical analytics, or AI applications.

  • Strong experience operating in global, cross-functional medical device environments.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable business and clinical insights.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience leading AI/ML-based clinical innovation projects.

  • Global experience managing cross-regional teams and stakeholders.

  • Strong track record of regulatory and clinical evidence generation to support market approvals and scientific adoption.


Compensation

Base Pay: $193,300 – $386,700 (may vary by location and experience)
