About the Role

The Head of the Ligand Binding Assay (LBA) Platform leads multiple laboratories responsible for developing, qualifying, validating, and executing LBAs that support vaccine clinical endpoints across Phases I–IV.

This role combines strategic leadership, technical excellence, and team management to ensure the generation of high-quality, GCLP-compliant bioanalytical data.

The position reports to the Head of Global Clinical Immunology (GCI) and is based in Swiftwater, PA.


Key Responsibilities

🔹 1. Leadership & Scientific Oversight

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. scientists.

  • Direct LBA method development, qualification, validation, and execution for clinical endpoints.

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in assay technologies and workflows.

  • Oversee project planning, resource allocation, and adherence to GCLP and quality standards.


🔹 2. Technical Expertise

  • Strategize and optimize immunological ligand binding methodologies, including:

    • ELISA

    • Radio-Immuno Assay (RIA)

    • Luminex

    • MSD

    • Ortho VITROS platforms

  • Ensure scientific excellence and regulatory compliance in assay design and validation.

  • Deliver accurate, reproducible results to support vaccine development programs.


🔹 3. Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with global project teams, clinical immunology leads, and other platform heads.

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in key internal/external meetings, including with CROs and regulatory authorities.

  • Publish and present high-impact scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and global conferences.

  • Partner with transversal functions (Regulatory, Clinical Development, Operations) to accelerate vaccine project timelines.


Essential Attributes

✅ Proven expertise in ELISA, RIA, Luminex, MSD, and Ortho VITROS platforms
✅ Strong experience managing teams of 10+ scientists in a regulated laboratory setting
✅ Deep understanding of GCLP, quality systems, and LIMS
✅ Skilled in reagent qualification, assay troubleshooting, and laboratory operations
✅ Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
✅ Track record of innovation (publications, patents, or conference presentations)


About You

🎓 Education:

  • B.S. in Life Sciences with 15+ years of experience, or

  • M.S. in Immunology, Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry, or related field with 12+ years, or

  • Ph.D. in a relevant life science discipline with 8+ years of experience


💼 Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years in a regulated laboratory (preferably in Pharma R&D).

  • Proven leadership in bioanalytical method development for vaccines.

  • Experience in immunogenicity assay development and validation.

  • Familiarity with clinical databases, inventory management, and lab automation tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel, budgets, and multi-project operations.
