Overview

Cactus Communications (cactusglobal.com) is seeking experienced researchers, retired researchers, and former researchers to join our network of Freelance Peer Reviewers. This role allows you to evaluate manuscripts for academic journals and publishers from anywhere in the United States.

Candidates must be able to disclose their full name and institutional affiliations to maintain transparency with publishers. This flexible position provides an opportunity to contribute to high-impact research while managing your own schedule.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Novelty: Evaluate whether the manuscript presents original research and contributes new knowledge to the field.

  • Evaluate Study Design and Methodology: Ensure the study design and methods are robust, appropriate, and reproducible.

  • Literature Review: Verify that relevant, up-to-date research is cited appropriately.

  • Analyse Results and Conclusions: Review whether the results are clear, valid, and supported by the data, and whether the conclusions are significant.

  • Provide Constructive Feedback: Suggest improvements, identify flaws, omissions, or ethical concerns.

  • Recommend Publication: Assist editors in determining whether the manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected.


Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Doctorate (PhD or MD) or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant medical field.

  • At least two publications in the last two years within your subject area.

  • Strong understanding of research methodologies and ethical research practices.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong written communication skills for providing clear and constructive feedback.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and work independently.

  • Commitment to confidentiality and objective evaluation.

  • Prior experience as a peer reviewer for academic journals is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with online manuscript submission and review systems.
