Overview

Cactus Communications (cactusglobal.com) is seeking experienced researchers, retired researchers, and former researchers to join our network of Freelance Peer Reviewers for Humanities and Social Sciences journals. This remote position allows you to evaluate manuscripts, provide expert recommendations, and ensure high-quality, publishable research from anywhere in the United States.

Candidates must be able to disclose their full name and institutional affiliations to maintain transparency with publishers. This flexible role provides an opportunity to contribute to scholarly work while managing your own schedule.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Novelty: Evaluate whether manuscripts present original research and add meaningful insights to the field.

  • Evaluate Study Design and Methodology: Ensure that research methods are robust, clearly described, and reproducible.

  • Literature Review: Verify that relevant, current research is appropriately cited and integrated.

  • Analyse Results and Conclusions: Assess clarity, validity, and significance of results and conclusions.

  • Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer actionable suggestions, highlight errors or omissions, and flag any ethical concerns.

  • Recommend Publication: Assist editors in determining whether manuscripts should be accepted, revised, or rejected.


Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent advanced degree in Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Finance, Education, or Media and Communication.

  • 5–10 years of relevant research experience with at least 8 publications in the past ten years.

  • Strong understanding of research methodologies and ethical principles in social sciences and humanities.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong written communication skills to provide clear, concise, and constructive feedback.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple manuscripts efficiently.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and objectivity.

  • Prior experience as a peer reviewer for academic journals is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with online manuscript submission and review systems.
