Position Summary:
The Financial Assistance Counselor at CSVMG is responsible for ensuring that patients are fully informed about their financial obligations and available financial assistance programs. This role involves clear communication with patients regarding their financial liabilities, making decisions to ensure all reimbursement opportunities are pursued, and offering support with payment arrangements. The counselor also helps patients determine eligibility for financial assistance, liaises with external billing agencies to resolve reimbursement issues, and ensures accurate data entry into the CSVMG software system.

Key duties include:

  • Verifying insurance benefits for procedures, medications, and office visits.
  • Securing authorizations for office visits, procedures, chemotherapy, etc.
  • Counseling patients on financial matters, including payment collections and establishing payment plans in accordance with CSVMG policies.
  • Communicating effectively about available financial assistance programs in both the community and hospital setting.
  • Providing high-quality customer service to patients and managing financial accounts within the CSVMG computer system.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a physician practice setting with knowledge of clinical care and the claims process.
  • Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to assist patients in navigating financial arrangements and assistance programs.

Nature of Supervision:

  • Responsible to: Manager, Cancer Center

Environment:

  • Bloodborne Pathogen: Tasks do not entail predictable or unpredictable exposure to blood or body fluids, but universal precautions apply.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods, walk extensively to support patient care, and use a keyboard following ergonomic principles. Must be flexible with work schedules.
