Position Overview

Lilly is seeking an Executive Director of Product Development Statistics to provide strategic and statistical leadership across the product development portfolio. This senior role will lead the Product Development Statistics team in collaboration with chemists, biologists, formulators, and engineers, driving experimental design, analysis, and statistical excellence throughout nonclinical drug development projects.

The role requires both technical expertise and people leadership, ensuring the application of rigorous statistical methods, mentoring team members, and communicating the value of statistical insights to diverse scientific partners.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and mentor the Product Development Statistics team to achieve excellence.

  • Manage team performance, career development, and recruitment.

  • Develop departmental policies, set goals, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Foster a collaborative work environment upholding Lilly’s values.

Statistical Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide statistical guidance at strategic and tactical levels across product development projects.

  • Ensure robust experimental design, process optimization, and analytical method development.

  • Oversee stability studies, formulation support, and chemical/biochemical process analysis.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Regulatory, Discovery, Development, Manufacturing, and Global Patient Safety.

Data Analysis & Experimental Design

  • Apply advanced statistical techniques, including Bayesian methods, multivariate analysis, and quality by design.

  • Develop and implement innovative statistical approaches to enhance drug development and manufacturing.

  • Support regulatory submissions by authoring or reviewing statistical sections in CMC documents.

  • Ensure effective communication of results through visualizations, presentations, and manuscripts.

Compliance & Standards

  • Maintain compliance with internal and external standards, SOPs, and corporate policies.

  • Promote statistical best practices and ensure high-quality scientific outputs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Industrial Engineering.

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • At least 5 years in leadership or management of scientific teams.

  • Expertise in experimental design, Bayesian methods, and application of statistics to pharmaceutical development.

  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in R and JMP.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated Salary: $177,000 – $308,000 (dependent on experience and location).
