Job Description

The DPI Packaging Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, modification, troubleshooting, and optimization of high-speed pharmaceutical packaging equipment for dry powder inhalers (DPI). Reporting to the Supervisor/Manager, Engineering or Packaging, this role focuses on enhancing equipment efficiency, ensuring compliance with cGMP, and preventing equipment obsolescence.

The role involves investigating equipment performance, collaborating with operators, quality assurance, and maintenance teams, and developing technical documentation for new and modified equipment.


Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment Design & Optimization

  • Support design, modification, and troubleshooting of high-speed packaging machinery.
  • Implement improvements to increase efficiency and prevent obsolescence.
  • Develop vision system recipes for automated inspection.
  • Investigate equipment performance issues and recommend solutions.
  • Work closely with operators, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to optimize processes.

2. Technical Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare and execute User Requirement Specifications (URS), Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS), Design Specifications/Qualifications, Factory and Site Acceptance Tests.
  • Conduct Machinability Studies and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP, safety, and regulatory compliance.

3. Vendor & Team Collaboration

  • Develop relationships with key vendors for technical support and hardware applications.
  • Provide training and guidance to Machine Mechanics and packaging teams.
  • Participate in the generation and revision of SOPs related to packaging equipment.

4. Safety & Process Improvement

  • Promote correct and safe usage of all packaging equipment.
  • Identify and recommend maintenance improvements to enhance safety and reduce costs.
  • Provide immediate feedback on unsafe equipment or working conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and mechanics to troubleshoot and repair process equipment.
  • Adhere to Cipla Safety, Health, and Environmental policies.

Education & Experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Packaging Engineering or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in pharmaceutical or packaging engineering.

Required Skills & Expertise:

✅ Experience with high-speed automated visual inspection equipment & packaging machinery.
✅ Ability to read construction/process drawings & wiring diagrams.
✅ Strong analytical troubleshooting skills for packaging equipment & vision systems.
✅ Excellent written, verbal, and documentation skills.
✅ Strong organizational & interpersonal skills.
