Position Overview:

We are seeking a Director, Medical Affairs - Cardiac Medical Device to join our Medical Affairs team. This position can be based in Danvers, MA, or remotely for the right candidate. The Director will play a critical role in advancing the scientific understanding and clinical application of Abiomed’s cardiac medical devices, particularly in the field of cardiac unloading and cardiac recovery.

This position will support key academic and clinical partnerships, engage with thought leaders, and represent Abiomed at major scientific conferences. The Director will also work closely with internal teams to help drive medical education, scientific communication, and market access strategies that will ultimately improve patient outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team in alignment with company management principles.
  • Manage and organize evidence dissemination in partnership with commercial teams, ensuring alignment with business strategies.

Scientific and Therapeutic Area Expertise:

  • Maintain deep clinical and scientific expertise in the cardiac medical device space, including cardiac unloading and cardiac recovery.
  • Stay updated on industry developments, competitor products, and relevant market access and reimbursement trends.

Scientific Communication:

  • Serve as a credible scientific expert to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain peer-level relationships with thought leaders, professional groups, and academic institutions.
  • Lead discussions on evidence-based scientific data with key stakeholders in alignment with company policies.
  • Respond to unsolicited scientific inquiries, documenting and communicating responses appropriately.

Medical Affairs Strategy:

  • Collaborate with the Global Medical Affairs leadership to develop and execute field strategies.
  • Communicate key insights gathered through external interactions to inform internal business strategies.
  • Contribute to medical education and training both internally and externally, preparing and reviewing materials for marketing and field teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including clinical research, commercial, and regulatory to ensure alignment on key initiatives.
  • Represent Medical Affairs at key scientific meetings and contribute to the development of training programs and educational events.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Advanced Degree (PhD, MD) in a relevant field (cardiovascular space).
  • Post-graduate clinical training in Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Internal Medicine, or Intensive Care Medicine is preferred.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in Medical Affairs within the medical device or biotechnology industries, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Clinical experience with Abiomed Impella devices is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to network and partner with external customers, including scientific leaders, investigators, and clinical practice leaders.

Skills & Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, clinical research processes, and treatment guidelines.
  • Experience in medical device development and familiarity with the medical device industry and its external stakeholder environment.
  • Strong scientific communication skills and the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally (up to 60% of the time).
