Job Purpose

The Director – Global GI Portfolio and Pipeline provides leadership for current GI marketed products and pipeline assets, ensuring successful launches and robust evidence generation. The role collaborates across commercial, clinical, and Medical Affairs teams globally to:

  • Support launch planning and execution.

  • Align scientific and clinical strategy across geographies.

  • Facilitate evidence generation through Phase 3–4 studies and Real-World Evidence (RWE) initiatives.

  • Engage external thought leaders to influence clinical acceptance of products.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Launch Readiness & Strategy

  • Assess and prepare Global Medical Affairs teams for launch, including capacity, tactics, and budget (OPEX).

  • Develop product launch strategy and medical affairs strategy in collaboration with global brand, PRA, Advocacy, and Professional Relations teams.

  • Lead execution of launch readiness activities:

    • Education strategy and tactics

    • Key leader mapping/engagement

    • Internal scientific and molecule training

    • Medical FAQs, Medical Liaison training

2. Business/Customer Support

  • Consult on brand strategy and lifecycle planning.

  • Serve as a resource to affiliates and regional medical teams.

  • Lead Global Medical Affairs advisory boards, speaker programs, symposia, and conferences.

  • Coordinate with affiliate medical leadership and internal teams for key insights and training.

  • Support business-to-business and business-to-government activities.

  • Review and approve promotional materials and scientific content.

  • Support training of medical personnel and health outcomes staff.

3. Clinical Planning & Scientific Support

  • Contribute to Phase 3–4 studies, RWE trials, observational studies, or post-hoc analyses.

  • Support registration program design, endpoints, indication statements, and label planning.

  • Ensure all activities comply with GCPs, Lilly policies, company standards, and the Principles of Medical Research.

  • Critically review literature, competitive product data, and clinical developments relevant to GI portfolio.

  • Represent Lilly as a credible scientific expert externally and internally.

  • Attend relevant scientific symposia and explore extramural scientific opportunities.

4. Leadership & General Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to clinical research physicians, scientists, or administrative staff (if assigned).

  • Lead cross-functional or virtual launch teams across MDU and Global US Medical Affairs.

  • Contribute to business unit budget preparation and administration, particularly for Phase 3B/4 studies.

  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to professional development.

  • Engage in recruitment, diversity, retention, and task forces as requested.

  • Model leadership behaviors and act as an ambassador for Lilly.


Minimum Qualifications

  • PharmD or PhD (board eligibility or certification preferred) or equivalent stature if non-US trained.

  • Minimum 3 years Gastroenterology experience, including at least 1 year in pharmaceutical industry.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical affairs and GI brand management.

  • Understanding of drug development process.

  • Experience in health policy, health outcomes, statistics, payers, and healthcare organizations.

  • Track record of engagement with thought leaders.

  • Strong ethics, patient-focus, and credibility.

  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills.

  • Internal networking success within Lilly preferred.

  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated Salary: $168,000 – $294,800

  • Eligibility for company bonus based on performance.
