Role Overview

The Director – Biostatistics at LCCI is a senior leadership role responsible for providing strategic, scientific, and operational direction to the Global Statistical Sciences (GSS) function in Bangalore. The role drives global statistical strategy, resource planning, capability development, and operational excellence across Lilly’s drug development portfolio.

The Director oversees advanced statistical functions, leads high-performing teams, ensures agile delivery aligned with evolving business demands, and contributes to global innovation in biostatistics.


Key Responsibilities

1. Enabling GSS Deliverables

  • Provide strategic direction, oversight, and leadership for GSS operations at LCCI.

  • Serve as a leader within GSS and across R&D, influencing organizational and industry-level initiatives.

  • Partner with global GSS AVPs/VPs to plan, forecast, and manage resources for all portfolio projects.

  • Drive efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement for statistical deliverables across therapeutic areas and business units.


2. Statistical & Analytical Capability Development

  • Build strong technical and analytical capabilities within LCCI's statistical workforce.

  • Develop strategies to enhance advanced statistical expertise and innovation.

  • Maintain and foster deep therapeutic, scientific, and environmental knowledge relevant to statistical science.

  • Encourage active collaboration with academic bodies, external experts, and professional associations.

  • Leverage global statistical networks to accelerate innovation and address complex scientific problems.


3. Site Leadership & Partnership

  • Strengthen partnerships with LCCI site leadership, Lilly Research Labs, and functional teams to support site strategy.

  • Collaborate with GSS teams globally, including GSS Cork and Lilly Corporate Center, to improve efficiency and explore new opportunities.


4. Enterprise Leadership

  • Demonstrate strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and problem-solving across functional teams.

  • Maintain awareness of external trends, benchmarks, and regulatory environments.

  • Ensure compliance with all laws, guidelines, quality standards, and best practices.

  • Own fiscal responsibility for GSS operations at LCCI.

  • Promote shared learning, consistency, and process excellence across teams.


5. People Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for direct reports.

  • Recruit, train, and retain a skilled statistical workforce capable of meeting global needs.

  • Build an agile, flexible organization aligned with an evolving portfolio.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, professional growth, and scientific excellence.

  • Partner with line management to develop expertise in:

    • Drug development

    • Therapeutic area science

    • Strategic thinking

    • Leadership

    • Project management


Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics

  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience

  • At least 7 years supervisory experience (5 years leading leaders preferred)

  • Strong understanding of drug development, regulatory expectations, quality standards, and industry practices

  • Ability to create and implement strategies across people, processes, and technology

  • Strong cross-functional influence and collaboration skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and risk-mitigation skills

  • Demonstrated success in leading global teams and unifying them toward shared objectives
