About the Role

Novartis is seeking an experienced Dermatologist Physician Scientist to provide translational medicine leadership across early and late-stage dermatology programs. This dual posting allows for appointment at Associate Director or Director level based on skills, experience, and capabilities. You will guide clinical development strategies, translational research, and regulatory interactions while collaborating with global cross-functional teams to accelerate innovative therapies for dermatological diseases.

As a Translational Medicine Expert (TME), you will:

  • Lead early global programs from discovery to late-stage transition.

  • Develop strategies for late-stage programs, ensuring clinical pharmacology packages meet regulatory requirements and support differentiated drug labeling.

  • Support translational research to identify new indications, endpoints, and biomarkers using in vitro, in vivo, and in silico approaches.

  • Provide scientific and clinical expertise for in-licensing opportunities and due diligence.


Key Responsibilities

Early Clinical Projects (Phase I / II – Discovery)

  • Develop translational medicine strategies in collaboration with TMEs and project teams.

  • Lead global project teams through Phase I/IIa to implement development strategies.

Late-Stage Clinical Projects (Profiling)

  • Design and oversee Phase II/III and post-approval profiling strategies.

  • Support dose selection, study design, and clinical pharmacology across the development cycle.

  • Lead translational medicine contributions to regulatory submission documents.

Translational Research

  • Identify and validate novel endpoints, biomarkers, and indications in collaboration with dermatology, biomarker, clinical operations, and preclinical teams.

  • Contribute to decision-making strategies for early clinical studies.

Business Development & Licensing

  • Serve as subject-matter expert for disease indication, molecule, and clinical trial experience during in-licensing and out-licensing activities.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and scientific leadership across project teams.

  • Oversee integrated safety data review during and post-study.

  • Represent translational medicine to health authorities, payers, and patient advocacy groups.

  • Lead publication strategy and author scientific publications; present externally where appropriate.

  • Ensure operational excellence, timeline adherence, cost efficiency, and high scientific standards across clinical programs.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • MD with clinical subspecialty training in dermatology; PhD or postdoctoral research experience preferred.

  • Associate Director level: 1–2 years in pharma/biotech, CRO, or academic medical center experience.

  • Director level: 5+ years in pharma/biotech, CRO, or academic medical center experience.

  • Recognized medical expertise demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.

  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams in a matrix organization.

  • Demonstrated innovation and identification of clinical discovery opportunities.

  • Willingness to collaborate with other TMEs and global teams.

  • Position requires approximately 7% domestic/international travel.
