Role Overview

The Medical Monitor / Medical Director – Dermatologist provides clinical and therapeutic oversight for assigned dermatology clinical trials. This role ensures patient safety, scientific integrity, and regulatory compliance, acting as the primary medical contact for internal teams and sponsors.

The position supports drug safety, protocol design, feasibility assessments, and training, while collaborating with project teams, medical scientists, and other Medical Directors to identify trends, mitigate risks, and optimize study outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Oversight & Consultation

  • Serve as primary medical contact for assigned clinical studies, providing expert guidance to sponsors and internal teams.

  • Provide clinical and therapeutic input into protocol design, amendments, data collection tools, and monitoring plans.

  • Review clinical study data, identify trends, and recommend risk mitigation strategies to protect patient safety and data integrity.

  • Provide after-hours medical coverage as needed for clinical studies.

Support & Collaboration

  • Assist Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance teams with medical oversight.

  • Contribute to study start-up, feasibility, and subject identification activities, including review of informed consent templates and site feasibility assessments.

  • Deliver project-specific and therapeutic training to project teams, clinical site staff, and sponsor teams.

  • Support responses to RFPs (Requests for Proposals) and Bid Defense Meetings, as requested.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of FDA, global drug development regulations, and ICH/GCP guidelines.

  • Adhere to company policies, SOPs, and sponsor protocols to ensure compliance across all clinical activities.

External Representation

  • May represent Syneos Health at scientific meetings or conferences, as requested.

  • Collaborate with clinical development and regulatory teams to provide medical input on broader projects.


Required Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent degree in Dermatology, with clinical trial or medical oversight experience.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical research processes, drug development, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience providing medical oversight and consultation in clinical trials.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to handle complex, high-level medical decisions, manage multiple priorities, and work independently.

  • Familiarity with drug safety and pharmacovigilance processes preferred.

Travel: Minimal, as required for business or scientific meetings.
