Overview

Cactus Communications (cactusglobal.com) is a remote-first organization promoting an “accelerate from anywhere” culture. We are seeking a talented Scientific Graphic Designer to join our Digital Media Solutions (DMS) team, which collaborates with scientists, universities, publishers, and organizations across 150+ global accounts.

In this role, you will transform complex scientific research into visually compelling graphics, including graphical abstracts, journal cover images, infographics, posters, brochures, and other scientific visuals. Your designs will ensure both scientific accuracy and aesthetic impact, meeting client specifications and enhancing research communication.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop visually engaging graphical abstracts that summarize scientific studies effectively.

  • Interpret scientific manuscripts to extract key concepts and design elements.

  • Create storyboards outlining visual narratives aligned with research objectives.

  • Produce rough sketches and collaborate with writers, researchers, and clients to refine final visuals.

  • Ensure the quality of outputs from peers and freelancers meets client expectations and delivery standards.

  • Maintain clarity, scientific accuracy, and design consistency across all projects.


Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Graduate or PhD in STEM fields, preferably Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering.

  • 3–5 years of experience in scientific graphic design, visual science communication, or medical illustration.

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; 3D design experience in Blender is a plus.

  • Proven ability to design scientific illustrations, graphical abstracts, and journal covers.

  • Strong understanding of the scientific publishing and research communication landscape.

  • Excellent collaboration, time management, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote-first environment while meeting deadlines.
